I'm currently reading and consider myself a big Murakami fan (I've read 4 previous books and liked them all). I'm not as invested in this one (I am about half way through). I think some of the scenes are completely unnecessary and repetitive, even though I like how he writes and his style. The separate pieces of puzzles analogy you have is spot in revealing characters. Nicely put! I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts and enjoyed your review!

I have been tempted to buy this but it appeared not to be a genre that I would normally read. However, after watching your review I think I will get it as I don't mind long books (War and Peace is a lifelong favourite) and dark themes (Cancer Ward). Thanks.

This was such a great review! You've sold me on it. I've heard about Haruki Murakami before and even had this one on my list to buy, but now I want to get it much sooner. I love how much detail and depth you gave when talking about the book. I'm behind on filming my own videos but I will absolutely be giving you a shout-out in my next one. Just started reading murakami's books the first was Norwegian wood I really enjoyed it I'm thinking about reading this book next

1Q84 is a book I hauled a couple of years ago from a library sale and haven’t read yet. I didn’t realize it is a trilogy. I love magical realism, but eww, those other parts sound super cringy. I still want to give it a read sometime but thanks for the warning. Nice review!

It was my first read, only because it was the cheapest of the three I could find in the wild, lol. I inhaled it, read it in a week, couldn't stop. It was a beautiful love story. The sexual TMI was different, but people are weird and think that way sometimes, so I wasn't entirely put off buy it. Absolutely love this book, my favorite character is Ushikawa, won't say why in case of spoilers.

Hi I'm a new reader (not much a reader) the first book Ive finished without knowing the ending at first was colourless tsuzuki tazaki. Do you think new reader like me can be able to read and finish this book ? Because im intrigued

I completely agree with your points about sexual tmi. I'm not a prude by any stretch, but there is a place and time for sexually. It was a constant distraction for me. Unwelcome and not important to the story. I loved the books in spite of that.

I bought 1Q84 (complete) at a book shop in Washington, DC years ago, and finally got around to reading it last year. I loved this book. And reading chapter 1 while listening to Sinfonietta is a delight. Reading the further chapters, it was great seeing the threads come together, and thinking carefully about what events constitute significant clues. This was my first Murakami book. My next is going to be his memoir about running.
