In 1661 a revolt led by the local priest Bernard Gohyenetche "Matalaz" in the historical French territory of Soule, turned out to be a total massacre for the locals. The head of the priest was hung into a stick and was shown to the people of the region so no one could dare to rise against the French absolutist monarchy again. This beautiful song was inspired by Matalaz.
