Jhon Duran scored the winner at The London Stadium as Aston Villa beat West Ham United 2-1 after Amadou Onana opened the scoring after just 3 minutes. Lucas Paqueta equalised from the spot just before half time. Julen Lopetegui made subs but to no avail as Summerville and Fullkrug couldn't find a second equaliser.

Villa fan here, I had this game down as a 2-2 draw so happy with the win, think Kaduce is a great player, gave Matty Cash a hard time, early doors yet good luck irons for rest of season.

Villa fan, thought we’d get a draw at best today, we’re terrible at your place. Typical Duran getting the winner 😂 you not signing him is a blessing and a curse, trust me. Good honest summary and good luck for the rest of the season. UTV.

I can’t understand why Loppy is so angry at the end, he bought players to replace the likes of Coufal and Mavrapanos and Antonio and for the left side, so what does he do not play them till the 70th Minute, Soucek at fault for 1st goal and you just knew Duran was going to score - There were some positives Rodriguez looked good, Kilmans long passing was very good, Kudus was outstanding- but Loppy I don’t know what you was expecting when you literally put out the same team as last year - but onwards we go and hopefully next game we will see all of our new players from the start

Villa 2 years down the road from us with 1 change really to their line up. Got to think we’ll have 3-4 changes to our starting 11 by a few games time. Stats wise all was even today. Still think we’ll finish in the same place this year but the footy will be better. Solid review there Geo 👍

Very fair review. 👏

I think West Ham have all the ingredients for a European challenge once the manager hits on the right recipe.

When we look back, I think Villa fans will feel this was a good time to get this difficult away fixture out of the way.

Great away points for us at a ground where I suspect many will struggle as the season progresses. Hope you take a good haul of points off the “rich six”!

Wishing Hammer’s well for the rest of the season, (except at VP of course)! 💜💙

villa fan here, good fair analysis of the match, better team won on the day. i think most if not all the villa fans were a little surprised at how we fell back in to good form. we had one good pre season performance so we were all probably unsure what villa we would see. i think you’ll do alright this season but next you could be a real force. utv good luck in the rest of the season

I was very impressed with the substitutions taking Bowen off show that there is no favoritism and if you're not playing well you're going to get Takin off. I was also happy that we went for it when we were 2-1 down, in previous Seasons we would have sat back and protected the results against a "Champions League side".

Honestly, what i saw today was impressive. We looked completely different, and we attacked the gane. Antonio is at fault for the first goal, as he didn't track. But strikers are known for that, so keep him out of it and leave hin further up the pitch.

Big Su, scores those 2 or at least 1 on different day. Summerville, looks bloody good. And the tactical switch, 352 almost worked.

Theres alot to be impressed with after that game. Andvin typical west ham style, the player we almost signed scores lol 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Great review geo COYI

Very balanced and fair assessment Geo. Can everybody PLEASE remember the dreadful state that Moyes left us in in terms of squad quality, squad depth, confidence, playing style etc etc etc. Not that Moyes was totally to blame mind you. Sullivan allowed it to happen. He oversaw the club effectively losing 12 months and standing still. Some would probably rightly argue that we went backwards. In that 12 months Villa (who i think were slightly behind us in development at that point) have flown past us and that showed today. They were by far the better side.

Lopetegui has had a pre season to try to make up for and turn around a wasted 12 months. Rome wasn't built in a day and he needs time. Despite all our signings i maintain that this will be a season of stabilising and those fans suggesting European qualification or even top 4 are well wide of the mark. I hope i am wrong but i find that totally unrealistic. If we can finish top ten this season then personally i will be happy. Anything more is a bonus.

Moyes last season at the club has left a lot of deep wounds and scars that will take time to heal. That wasted season is gonna haunt us for a while yet. MAYBE Lopetegui won't turn it around but he needs a full season before REAL judgement can be unleashed upon him. Onwards and upwards. COYI⚒️

With the Bowen sub its been common thing this weekend that players involved deep into Euros have been subbed due to having little or no pre-season. Might not feel like a big improvement but same game last season we had 31% possession compared with 51% today.

soucek and coufal really stood out as being not good enough

Was so impressed with the 2nd half.
I had 1-3 villa before the game and to be fair, it could have been a cricket score if villa were more clinical in the first 25mins.

Very happy with Lopeteguis bold substitutions. He's got a good bench and he's not scared to use it.

Feel a bit sorry for Kudus who's been shafted into playing LW and forced to belt crosses into the box when we know his game is about running at players and shooting.

An amazing game to watch as a neutral. We're going to witness some crazy games this season for sure. I can't wait for Palace away.

Early days, chill out. Villa good competition and we are bedding players in, will only get better. At 1-1 I’d rather go for it than boring park the bus for a point. Too early for negativity, give the process a chance.

It seems crazy for so many people to react so strongly after one game, either to the team selection or the performance. Let's give the manager 6-8 games to get his ideas across, get everyone including the new players match fit and then see who he's picking and how they're performing. Emery has had two years to bring Villa to where they are now, and after the first half hour we were pretty close to them. If we're going to see a real breakthrough, it's probably going to be next year, not this.

Villa deserved the points today particularly in the 1st half we struggled. Still very optimistic for the season we now have a great squad ⚒

Ok, we didn't win, but...great news, we had more possession than the opposition for the first since...I can't remember.

I would have been happier to start with the new boys and starting to to work on how we will shape up going forward

There was a lack of creativity towards the end. Why did Paqueta and Bowen go off. All we were doing was lumping to Kudos, when Mattsen had him in his pocket.

We were unlucky not to nick it at the end. Soucek could have drawn it at the end. We looked better at 3 at the back.
