Rush Live Kansas City, MO 8mm April 7, 1988

Here is a new Rush 8mm transfer, recorded by Mongo and The Bulge, and transferred by Analog Kid Audio Video. It is very far away from the stage and shaky at times, but it does have it's moments. Some interesting pre-show footage as well, including the giant red balloon dispensers.

The film was not in the best shape, with burn marks and scratches here and there. And the shakiness created some blurred frames that could not be fully remedied with stabilization software. However, I stabilized as much as reasonably possible, and cleaned up the dirt, dust, noise, and random marks. I then interpolated to a higher frame rate, which helps the pre-show footage, but has less of an effect during the concert itself.

I also synced audio from Omaha 1988 with direction from Analog Kid Audio Video on which song was which, and the match works very well for the film at this distance from the stage. While this won't be the best Rush 8mm ever created, hopefully this is something enjoyable for the Rush fans out there.

Cool! First time I saw Rush was April 88 in Dayton Ohio. I don't remember the big red spheres hanging from the ceiling, but Rush did have surround speakers set up all the way around the arena for the intros to Time Stands Still and Distant Early Warning, I believe. Pretty amazing someone can analyze this footage and know where audio matches up, especially with grainy 16mm film from a distance. Impressive!

That was my first Rush Tour, saw it in New Orleans. Seen every tour since that one. This one will always be my favorite. Light show, sound system, and song list was just incredible.
