The 926 has a 3204 direct injection turbo, four-cylinder engine producing 105 flywheel horsepower (FWHP). It has a four speeds forward, four reverse powershift transmission with four-wheel drive. It comes standard with electric start, caliper disc brakes, sealed Z-Bar linkage, pressure compensated hydraulics, electric monitoring system, folded core radiator, and diagnostic connector.
The 926 was manufactured in the USA, with a 94Z serial number prefix; in Belgium, with a 4NB prefix; and in Japan, with an 8NB prefix.
[edit] Modifications
Between 1984 and 1988, Caterpillar replaced the 926 with the 926E, which consisted of modified 94Z, 4NB, and 8NB units.
In 1984 Caterpillar increased the horsepower on the 4NB unit to 105 FWHP, beginning with 4NB03612.
In 1987 and 1988, all units had their horsepower increased to 110 FWHP. They also received an added input transfer gear and new tires, beginning with 94Z02209, 4NB02076, and 8NB01542.
In 1992, all Belgium production was moved to France.
Production in the USA ended in 1993.
Production in France ended in 1994.
Production in Japan ended in 1995.
Based on data from the sales database of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, it is estimated that more than 8,200 Caterpillar 926 and 926E wheel loaders have been produced.
