That was the first problem on your channel that I was able to solve. :)

My approach to find the length of train A was a bit different, comparable to the second part with the platform:

a = length of train A, b = length of train B = 1/2 a, x = passing point of the two trains (relative to the front of train A)

Train A: a + x = 48/3.6 m/s * 12 s = 160 m
Train B: 1/2a - x = 42/3.6 * 12 s = 140 m

Add the two equations:

3/2a = 300 m
a = 2/3 * 300 m = 200 m

Felt like physics problem to me rather, well I easily solved this one
