Great video, Zinnias are my favorite flower.I grow California Giants, State Fair, Scarlet Flame and a couple of orange and yellow varieties.I mainly do it for my pollinators and hummingbirds.

I want to thank you so much for these tips. I have been looking everywhere to find information about hand pollination.
We are definitely going to try!

Thank you for sharing! I was looking at how to do this and your video was so easy to understand. Do you clean your paint brush or get a new one each time? Do you think a Q-tip would work too?

I have been saving seed for 5 yrs. This year I have a zinnia plant that has a bright pink flower and also a bright yellow flower on the same plant. Something I have never seen. However lots of my zinnias change color. So I'm doing videos of that plant to document the color change that might take place. But currently the plant has one bright pink flower with a bright yellow flower both with hot pink centers.

Very nice video. Question: But where in the ray floret are the anthers (pollen producers?) I see the stigmas in the center and get you are collecting pollen with the brush from them, but how do you know if that was not deposited from a bee traveling from another zinnia plant with a color you may not want? I am looking specifically for the anthers in the disk florets. Any direction would be most appreciated. Thank you.

Came across this video, very helpful, thank you! If you don’t mind me asking…if the first step is to keep only the colors you want for breeding, do I need to hand pollinate at all? I have lots of pollinators in my garden. And if I am to cross a pink with a white one, which flower should I choose for pollen and which for the recipient? Sorry for those beginner’s question 😅

I’m confused. So you take the pollen from the top and do what with it?

This video was so helpful, thank you. I live in the UK. Is it possible to purchase some of your seeds and have them sent to me? I would love to grow some of your beautiful zinnias.

Hey! - can you self pollinate every single bloom on one plant with another variety and see if they are all different on one plant????😃😃😃😃

What if I just want to collect seeds from a single small indoor zinnia plant….do I still have to hand-pollinate or are they self-pollinating?
