Seronegative and Seropositive Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) | Rheumatologist Dr. Micah Yu

Seropositive rheumatoid arthritis and seronegative rheumatoid arthritis are two different classifications of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) based on certain blood tests. Seropositive RA is characterized by the presence of specific autoantibodies in the blood, particularly rheumatoid factor (RF) and anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide (anti-CCP) antibodies. These antibodies indicate an immune response that is often more aggressive and may lead to more severe joint damage in some cases.

On the other hand, seronegative RA refers to cases where these autoantibodies are not detected in the blood. While the absence of these antibodies might suggest a milder form of the disease, seronegative RA can still cause significant joint inflammation and damage. It's important to note that the absence of these antibodies doesn't necessarily mean the condition is less severe; it's just a different subset of RA.

The distinction between the two classifications helps healthcare providers tailor treatment plans and predict potential disease progression in some cases, but the overall management approach remains centered on improving the patient's quality of life. Don't forget to comment your thoughts about Seronegative RA and seropositive RA.

Amazing content! Thank you for all this information, I can now discuss with my Rheumatologist! He referred me to a pain doctor, and on my first visit with the PA, he prescribed Gabapentin, which I forced myself to stick with it for a week, but the side effects were horrible. I live alone and could not function with that drug. I jotted down all the drugs mentioned here, so I'll discuss with my doctor. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

Thank you, I know I have RA - in practically disabled, where I can't even dress myself most of the time, and my doctor can't find what's wrong with me, because I think I'm seronegative RA. She said I don't show any inflammation. I'm going to ask her about all the dietetic possibilities you have mentioned. Thank you doctor!!! 🌷

Thanks so much for this very informative video 😊 I’ve been confused for awhile and felt lost for many years. It all started with fever and multiple joint pain/swelling at age 14 and I was hospitalized 2 weeks. Was told it wasn’t JRA and I had back pain too. Years later I developed weird symptoms doctors couldn’t understand like chronic pleurisy and weight loss lasting 4 years. One rheumatologist diagnosed me with lupus and then another with UCTD. Later diagnosed with fibromyalgia after my spine fusion. 2019 I found out I have hidradenitis suppurativa which can cause joint pain as well. Then after was told I have RA. CRP and Sed rates stay elevated and my Vectra score is high but negative for Rheumatoid factor and CCP antibodies. I have so much spinal arthritis that my doctor said it’s usually seen in combat veterans. I’m on Cosentyx for RA and hidradenitis suppurativa. I’ve seen many rheumatologists over the years and have walked away due to confusion and frustration. I’d be very grateful to hear what your opinion is. Thanks so much ❤

Thank you for your great videos and information. I do have one suggestion about your videos. The music is distracting to you what you are saying. What you are teaching is so clear to your audience that you do not need the music to enhance your message. Having worked in digital marketing, I understand why some people want to add the music but it needs to have a purpose. It would be helpful to just be able to listen to you. If you want to use the music, you might consider lower the volume of the music. I hope this helps.

I have had RA. And OA for last 20 years. I halos have Fibromyalgia. My current rhematologisy is no good. I asked for another one, but still have not gone, as I think I will just be given a list of meds to take, I don’t want to take a bunch of new meds. I want to treat cause. I want a doctor who will work thru systems with me to come to conclusion and a away to treat naturally. if that doesn’t work, then try something else.

Can you be positive for anti-carP and not have RA? Is there something else that could be triggering the positive?
