Four-time JUNO Award winner, two-time Grammy nominee, and Officer of the Order of Canada, soprano saxophonist/flautist Jane Bunnett is a national treasure. Known for her courageous artistry and adventurous improvisation, her music explores the fertile intersection of jazz and Afro-Cuban music. Bunnett’s long list of collaborators includes Paul Bley, Hilario Durán, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Frank Emilio, David Virelles, Don Thompson, Kellylee Evans and many more.

Always evolving, and always attracting top-flight musicians, her exciting new project Maqueque brings together an all-female band of Cuban All-Stars for a sublime synthesis of modern jazz with a Cuban soul. With Yissy Garcia on drums, Daymé Arocena on vocals, Magdelys Savigne on percussion and vocals, Danaé Olano on piano, Yusa on bass and tres and Celia Jiménez on bass.

Performance recorded on July 24, 2014 at the Toronto Botanical Garden, as part of The Edwards Summer Music Series: Gardens of Song.
