the gun skin is referencing the storming of the normandy beaches of june 1944 with mg42 playing a huge role as the defense of the beachhead and on a side note, d day didn't feature many aircraft carriers and had more destroyers which actually broke the stalemate bombarding the pillboxes allowing a breakthroughs.
