My friends and I enjoy this with a homebrew variant where you constantly have 1 extra card in hand (drawing 4 at the beginning). You still only play 3 each turn, but it (a) allows you to strategize/plan a bit more (b) fights the first player advantage quite a bit since all players play their last single card in the final round. Keeps it very dynamic :)

The makers of this game are french, and in french the word Courtisan does mean "people of the court", it's a bit of a false friend, your intuition was right

I like to read Frosthaven being stored in the miscellaneous closet as a good thing. Not important enough to be displayed with the main collection, but too important to remove altogether.

I'm surprised there was no comparison with Biblios, which also has the "set collection, but the value of each set will be determined by the players" element. Biblios is perhaps a bit more complex, though, with two distinct phases involving both drafting and auctioning.
