Laser Keyboards – Do they REALLY shoot first?

These keyboards have freaking LASERS in their keyswitches. Are they better than purely mechanical switches?

"Kinda like typing on boobs"... Know your audience Luke, the vast majority of your viewers will have no idea what that feels like.

I'm fairly sure that Light Strike is abbreviated as "LK" because "K" is the letter used to represent a strike in baseball.

What's this talk of 'pseudo-analogue' input as though it's some weird limitation which only wooting suffers from? Any axis input in any piece of hardware is digitized to some number of steps, how could it not be? This is exactly the same for wooting as it is for any thumbstick, trigger, 3-axis joystick, pedals, steering wheel etc.
Not surprisingly, devices definitely exist with higher resolution per axis than each single wooting one key (8bit/256 values, 511 if you use 2 keys for one axis), but they're all equally 'pseudo-analogue'.

I just want logitech's wireless mouse technology in a mechanical keyboard too... is that too much to ask?

The ability to register partial key presses could be a huge deal for portable music production. Digital synthesizers and audio workstations have always been able to register note "velocity" from MIDI sources, however when on the go and using a keyboard instead of a MIDI source, the software can only register 100% note velocity, forcing the producer to make changes in velocity by hand.

four years later and now everyone is making keyboards with optical mechanical switches and Razer has finally made on with the analog type form this video as well.

Every analogue input, including game-pads, will be limited to the bus range. 8 bit is 256 states, 16 bit is 65536 states. If you're going to say it's not technically analogue due to having 256 states, then you should say the same for analogue sticks on a game-pad or analogue triggers on a game-pad.

Fookin laser sights!
Or should I say...

Wookin laser keys?

And thanks for all the likes guys 😀

it's still analog, just after analog to digital there are 256 different stats... but still analog pre A/D converter.

If the application of an analog sensor to measure the distance between the key cap and the base does not analog input make. Then I really don't know what does. That 256 states of "pressed downed-ness" is the analog signal being converted to a digital one, which happens even in the "analog" controllers.

You are aware, that when you do consider 256 steps as "not analog", then some one has to break it do you: Computers are digital. USB is Digital. Wireless controllers are digital. Yes, you can discuss resolution, but oddly enough: Most Analog Sticks on gamepads are maxed out in one axis before hitting the mechanical limit. So really: 256 steps - with a short travel like a keyboard has - feels like analog or to be more precise "proportional".

I actually really like this idea (in particular the 'analog' keyboard), it gives a way to have controller like functionality for racing games and games like GTAV when controlling cars or any vehicle.
