Ever wondered how a jury works, or how to get out of jury duty? I explain the process and why you should WANT to serve on one.

Lucky to have it? So you don't want to be judged by a professional but instead get judged on a whim of some random people?
Idk seems weird to me.

I'm in New York and nobody I know responds to what i consider to be the recipient's decision. I think serving on jury duty should be a choice and not a demand!

Being forced into a courtroom with the threat of imprisonment and fines? Imagine if everything in the USA was like that... would you still think its acceptable?

Thank you, this video has helped to calm my anxiety. I have to attend jury duty selection this morning for the very first time.

I recently got called for jury duty. It was clear that some people intentionally said things to get them excused, like one woman saying she would know if someone was guilty or innocent by looking at them. If you show up on time, then you're more likely to get chosen. If you are a caregiver of someone else, then you will likely get excused. If, say, you run a child care center with 200 kids, then you will likely get excused. If you are or look over 70 years old, then you likely get excused, or if you have a financial hardship.

I just recently got a notice that I was "summoned" as a standby Juror. I got out of that faster then I received the letter.

I got a notice of jury duty… I’m in the middle of an active murder case… My daughter was murdered and after three years there are no convictions so the case is still active… I can’t even function in my life… I will not make a good juror

Privilege? Missing a day of work because of that? That all you get is 9 dollars. You want me on a jury you’ll pay me what wages I will miss .

Got picked for jury duty myself, glad I didn't have to go through the murder trial back in town. I still want to know though what stressors may ensure.

I would love to sit on a jury.

I wish the courts allowed us to Apply for jury duty.

I've been called twice...went in once...never questioned..just kept in a room. Second time I was on call...and I never went in...they cancelled on me twice with this time. WTF? I would like to actually do it..not just be told I might get to do it and never do it. I don't really get it cause neither time was I even questioned! I don't understand people that don't want to do it...but I also was interested in being a lawyer when I was younger...maybe that's why I want it. And I guess you are a lawyer...and that's exactly why you think it's. an honor to do it I imagine.

If you work for the Department of Corrections as civilians, do you get voted out?

I wasn’t even trying to get excused but I know my biases and can admit them. I told them my political/social biases and concerns and they let me stay on the jury. I think it’s because I distrust the plaintiff, the defendant, and the courts equally, making it not biased, so they let me stay I guess. I figured that, objectively speaking, my biases would not be compatible with the case I’m in, but I guess the lawyers and judge were ok with it. I’m so confused by that alone but I guess it can be an opportunity
