Hello knitting people. It's been a hard week my thoughts are with everyone in Ukraine and those opposing and protesting the war. I hope this week's episode can be a little spot of light. We'll talk about Kate Davies' Carbeth Cardigan--modified, of course! Plus, the beautiful yarn I knit it in: 100% Jacob from a local-to-me producer, Forget Me Not Farm in Candor, NY. Breed specific sweaters can be so much fun :) And, a shout out to Kim of Fairily Fiber Fun and Cyndy of Jubilee Farm. Come hang a while? ~Melissa

SHOW NOTES:

Awesome episode. Love your carbeth although I have not made it. If I did I would make it longer also. I do love all the cropped patterns that are available but do not think they are for me ... may be if I had a different wardrobe esthetic 😀 ... loved the wool conversation as well

Hi Melissa. I haven’t made a Carbeth, but I know that many people like their Carbeth. I think your buttons are perfect.

I have made three Carbeths. All pullovers. One was from yarn produced from local sheep. I made this sturdy one with a turtleneck collar. The second is made from thick cotton with a thick icord neck because I was playing yarn chicken and won with about 10 yds. to spare. The last one was from commercial yarn with a wool and alpaca mix. I wear the first two a lot. Have never made a cardigan version though . . .

I wish knitters realized how much more interesting this craft can be if we pay attention, and learn about, all of the various breeds and their fibre characteristics. I am a newer spinner….and my gosh…I have learned so much! There is so much to appreciate! - afriendlyknitter ~

So interesting to learn more about the different wool. The Carbeth is high up in my queue, so I appreciated seeing your modifications. It looks amazing! Like you, cropped doesn’t work that well on my body, so I generally need a longer length.

Your Carbeth cardigan is gorgeous and the buttons you picked are perfect for it! Did you knit it for the SE2SE sweater challenge? Your story about going button shopping in NYC reminded me that my grandmother used to work for a button factory in NYC in 90s and I'll have to see if I still have any. I haven't done a cardigan with buttons yet but I'm adding that to my list for the 1st or 51st Sweater KAL. I also really want to get that Jacob yarn you used for your cardigan.

I love that you kept the differently spun portion of the yarn in instead of cutting it out, I agree that it gives it character :) There were some sections of the yarn I was using for my Fjolla pullover that were underspun and I just kept them in. The stiches are bigger than others but I love the overall effect of it.

Can you tell me what cast on you used for the Carbeth? Thank you.
