The line that sticks with me the most is “and you will never be alone” because it reminds me about how cults will manipulate people who are sad and feel alone into feeling like they are in a place where they are loved and never alone, despite cults not usually fulfilling that promise. This song is not about love. It’s about how people use love as an emotional weapon.

Theory: lyrics at 4:33 stems from the Bible verse: proverbs 20:17“bread acquired by falsehood is sweet to a person. But the consequence afterwards is akin to your mouth being full of gravel”. So in short they are lying to David to keep him from leaving the kingdom of love, but it all comes crashing down on the cult as David wakes up from his daytime nightmare and unlearns the lies taught to him by the teachers

As someone currently trying to escape a cult (underage, one of my parents having been in a position of power within that cult) this resonates with me so much. It feels so friendly in the surface, but once you realize there’s something wrong there’s no going back.
