This is EXACTLY how a mic should be reviewed! Actually using it, allowing us to hear, mix the tracks, give the tracks away for free! Bravo Warren and friends!

What you’re saying about the quality of the music and the musicianship is so important. These days everybody’s talking about the mics, the preamps, the processing, etc., but really, if the music isn’t good, the recording quality doesn’t matter. I think maybe $100 is the threshold for a mic to get good quality.

Hey Warren, a bit off topic, but in the late 80's I worked for a very brief period at Mayfair recording studios as a tea boy/ tape op and I used to see your name on loads of multi tracks (Tears for Fears Sowing The Seeds and Woman in Chains) I used to think " Who IS this guy?" Well now I know! Amazing studio but I didn't last long there- I just wasn't mature or focused enough. I have a DAW now so love mixing and love watching your videos ❤

This mic sounds tremendous on this track! Fantastic.

Well you know our favorite is the SM7B, our show wouldn’t be the same without it.

Great video and recording Warren!

The song is really good! Man i miss the 90's and 2000's when bands played awesome songs like this. I truely hope this genré will maken it back in mainstream again someday..

While I am not in market for mics they sounded really good along with a great song. The level of performance was top notch and I wish that would return to music full stop. Two thumbs up to guitarist/bass player for using a Mesa Boogie rig. He won me over just seeing that alone, because I'm a simple man 😂 but a Mesa Boogie man 😅

Thanks for the delay tip with the deesser!!! I'm gonna do that. I mostly use deessers on vocals, guitar, overheads and sometimes the final master!!

Nice to see a heavyweight like Shure introduce a new competitor in the current-economy-priced category. Curious how it stacks up against some established condensers in this range, like Rode NT1-A, for example.

Song, performance, production. On a related note; while the group used 47's on vocals, brian wilson used a shure 545 for leads on pet sounds. My point? A very inexpensive mic, even for back then proving it's not always the gear or cost. As long as the gear isn't scratchy, broken or pure junk, (even those might have their place, lol), great things are possible. Shure sm4 - a new one to me. Gonna take closer look. Thanks for the heads up. Cheers. 👍
