Hi, It's Cindy, The LD Educator. As a special education teacher, my goal is to share hope and dispel myths about learning disabilities. Today we are talking low tech assistive technology for students with learning disabilities. Assistive technology is very important to the learning process of many with learning disabilities.

As a special education teacher, I am always on the hunt for great assistive technology finds that I can use in the instruction of students with learning disabilities. I found this timer (Sharper Image Timer Cubes) from Target on clearance. However, you can grab yours from Amazon using the link below.

I just stumbled upon your channel. Thank you for sharing your positivity and great ideas for uses with assistive tech! I work with assistive tech and I'm always looking for new ideas to share with others. I love that you keep saying that the students need to be as independent as possible and set their own timers - it really is key for being as independent as possible! I cannot express that enough in the education setting to educators and family members. Again, thank you!

Those are so cool! I’ll def have to find some next time I am state side. I always end up burning food because I get distracted by my little one.

The time blindness/self-regulation thing is REAL. As someone with ADHD, I really struggle with "feeling" the passage of time. It's very difficult for me to tell whether it's been five minutes or an hour of doing something; it's also hard for me to judge how long something will take to complete. Timers and alarms are my best friends, it's nice to see something novel and kid-friendly like this! Especially for use in classrooms!

I like the idea of using both timers together to give students a buffer and let them know their time is winding down. Don’t you just love when you find great things that you weren’t even looking for!?
