Audiobooks all day! Listen to them in the car. Two birds with one stone and time is precious.

When I listen to audiobooks, I get the gist of the book, but remember few details and often need to rewind or look at the printed version to recall names or foreign words I didn't understand by hearing it. Reading takes longer but I understand and remember much more of it.

I perfer audio books mainly because I read much slower than most people. I am also forgetful and (sometimes unknowingly) re-read the same sentence or paragraph over and over again.

Cool interview. (Also, I watch all your videos at 2X. If it's news, commentary, etc I watch always at 2x, sometimes I wish there was a higher speed!)

I listen to audiobooks when I'm driving, if I was reading when I was driving I'm not absolutely sure I'd learn more.

My aunt has macular degeration and cataracts and she was an avid reader until she lost her vision. We talked her into trying the audio books, and now she says, " I'm reading a book." She doesn't say, I"listening to a book." They have made a world of difference to her. She says she still has the intimate feeling of reading and she "reads" one or two books a week that are
brought in by the local library. It's a great thing.

His resemblance to Dean Pelton is uncanny.

I like to read the book and listen to the audio book at the same time, especially if it's read by the author

if you love bragging about having "read full books" then yes, you'd consider it cheating by those people

A good narrator can be as entertaining as the story.

My audio book reader very easily goes back in 15 second increments at the easy touch of a button. It also has varispeed, so I can get through an audiobook way faster than normal reading. I have grown accustomed to 2x speed. This has become even more true as I get older (I am 65, developing cataracts) and reading has become more difficult for my eyes. I also listen to audiobooks numerous times. Daniel Robinson's lectures on the implications of consciousness, for example, is an audiobook I have listened to perhaps a dozen times. Also I have a reader installed in my vehicle that synchronizes with my reader in the house. I have also purchased numerous e-books. My library has over 1000 physical books and I am running out of shelves. I now own several hundred e-books. And they are far easier to search through. As parliamentarian at my college I have an electronic copy of the rules of order and the bylaws. Finding a relevant passage is super quick.

Neither David nor Daniel seemed to be aware that Audio Books are typically abridged.
They cut out entire sub-plots as well as set-ups for future books in serial.
You essentially get a bare bones presentation of the plot of the book.

I listen to about 25 audio books a year. You can get two things done at once, i.e. wash dishes, drive a car, go for a walk.
I have the most expensive option for Audible which brings the price down to less than $10 bucks a book. I own them for life and I can cancel and restart anytime I want.

Some other advantages to audio books from somebody who has suffered chronic illness and long-term convalescence :
* better for your eyes in that they are not mono focused for long periods
* ergonomically better as you don't have your arms/shoulders locked in the reading position; audio books allow you to walk, rest, run, etc. Human bodies are evolved to move rather than hold locked positions for extended periods.

I like listening to (auto)biographies, but prefer reading everything else.

There are times when you want to go for the audiobook. For example, do NOT ever read The Republic by Plato listen to it instead. And it's faster too.

We love audiobooks! Hubby and I can't read the same book at the same time but we can listen to them together. We turned off the satellite years ago since TV is mostly garbage these days and really look forward to *our stories* in the evening. Some of the readers make books come to life in a way you don't get by reading yourself.

Of course not... it actually very important for people with reading difficulties or absorb information differently such as dyslexia and yes, it will be faster since people with difficulty often spend as much as ten times longer than usual to finish a book (I have similar problems). So it's certainly not a cheat when they are absorbing it the way most mentally suitable for them.

You can speed up the audio when listening to a book, genius.

I like reading and I do read many books. I go back and forth with audiobooks. Sometimes I like audiobooks when I do housework and with headphones at night. Other times I read and I find it relaxing. My niece is an audiobook recorder and I love her voice so whenever I know she has recorded an audiobook, I listen to it. I'm glad I have a choice. By the way, I read a lot faster than an audiobook. I actually read all of the Harry Potter books first and then listened to a few of them on audiobook. I liked when I read them myself better.
