The Crimean War was truly one of the biggest confrontations in the 19th century, along with being one of Russia's greatest defeats in terms of field losses, tactics and political moves. Although it was a conflict between Russian and Ottoman empires, other big countries, such as the British Empire and Napoleonic France didn’t miss the chance to join and chose their side — all of them aligning with the Ottomans and leaving Russians of their own.

This war had highlighted all of Russia’s weak spots and brought them more pain than accomplishments. This epic campaign on land and at sea was also the first war where many modern technologies and weaponry — such as telegraphs and bomb shellings. Along with that it was the last war holding a classical siege — the Siege of Sevastopol that lasted for almost a year. Watch the video for the details of this devastating war.

If Britain and France didn't participate, the city on the Bosphorus strait would have been Constantinople not Istanbul

Russia, having returned 20 years later, captured Crimea and liberated the Balkans, which sparked a major war against the Ottomans. Long live Russia for its liberation of the South Slavs!

Christian pilgrims? Like Christians hadn’t been there for almost two millennia… And honestly considering what the Muslim Ottomans ended up doing to their Christian subjects, all European nations should have fought with Russia against the Ottomans. Would’ve prevented several genocides.

The fact that Britain and France launched attacks against Russia on Crimea, on Kamchatka and on the Kola Peninsula at the same time...

It took 3 empires plus Italy to defeat Russia yet none of them could take mainland Russia despite some attempts particularly in Siege of Taganrog, Siege of Petropavlosk the only area the allies had success was in parts of Crimea which got returned to Russia after the war and Russia regained all losses suffered after the Crimean war regaining Black sea fleet, regaining South Bessarabia and Danube delta given to Romania after Ottoman Enoire suffered a crushing defeat st the hands of the Russians in 1877 exactly 21 years after Crimean war ended

It wasn't Moscow back then, it was Saint Petersbourg.

Almost two centuries later and nothing has changed.

3:23 "Same number of ships" is quite misleading, if we consider that the russians had 6 ships of the line, and the turks had none. It's like saying that two sports teams have "the same number of players", when one team is made of children and one of adults.

The result of the Crimean War created favorable conditions for the Union of the Romanian Principalities, Moldova and Muntenia in the country that will be called Romania, because otherwise the plan to reach Constantinople and the Adriatic would have become much easier. Even so, following the Russo-Turkish war of 1877, Russia kidnapped Bessarabia (Bugeac) from Romania, forcing Dobrogea, a backward and poorer region at that time with a Turkish population, later scandal with premeditation between Romanians and Bulgarians with all that the Romanians helped the Russians in the victory over the Turks in the liberation of the Balkans, a thing passed over in silence, the merits being attributed only to the Russians.

I still don't understand why Russia was defeated in the Crimean War.Yes, Russia was banned from having a fleet in the Black Sea, but Russia placed its fleet nearby in the Sea of Azov, and 20 years later Russia returned its fleet to the Black Sea.Russia did not suffer any territorial losses, Crimea remained Russia.Russia suffered fewer losses of soldiers than the Turks, the British, and the French.
