I discovered that the suits don’t matter in the setup. As long as the values (J, Q, K) are in the correct order for the 12 cards, the trick still works perfectly. Also, rather than pre-arranging the court cards in the correct order within the deck, I think it is easier to just used a shuffled deck and remove the court cards in the proper order even if it is necessary to go back and forth through the deck while finding the proper cards.
