Best Desktop Speakers? Audioengine HD6 Review

Audioengine is famous for their excellent A5+ and A2 powered speakers. They're back at it again with a new successor, the HD6. The Audioengine HD6 pack Bluetooth, 5.5" woofers, and a gorgeous wood wrap, but at $750, can they compete with the EVENT 20/20BAS and Yamaha HS8? I'm not too convinced...

MDF is used in speaker building for a very good reason, it's density and it doesnt shrink or expand with moisture conditions. The price of MDF has nothing to do with it being the best choice in speaker building. (within reason)

Just stumbled across this channel, and must tell you I'm subscribing for the fact this is a great quality video and that there was dust on your monitors base. Keep up the great work

I used to watch all the time before you went to South America but I've been happy with the content since you've been back.

I have been happy with my HD6s. I think that, yes, it's possible to get more sound for the money if you're willing to sacrifice a few of the capabilities of this setup, or are willing to go with larger speakers, but I wanted a small set of powered speakers that looked nice, had a DAC, and did Bluetooth. If you're in love with a very sparkly top end, these might sound a little reticent, but I find the sound to be non-fatiguing. I should also indicate that these are not being used with a PC, but rather as a hi-fi rig in a smallish room. I use them with a small sub to get that last few octaves, but they don't strictly need it. They sounded nice and punchy without the addition.

I totally agree with you review, that's why I bought. Paradigm shift a2. Powered speakers, each speaker had its own (2) amps and you can daisy chain as many speakers as you want and blow audio engine away and come in 5 colors from a Canadian speaker manufacture

Those are gorgeous! I would want them even if they sounded awful.

Can I connect to these speakers my: TV, CD Player, Turntable all at once? How does it know to switch between the sound sources?

I am ready to pull the trigger on the more budget friendly A5+. I was thinking I could couple them with the Chromecast Audio accessory and stream music from my iPhone or iPad. Nonetheless, great video!

HD6 has a built-in DAC. Is it any good? How does it compare to the better DACs? Thank you.

You can't improve Justin Bieber with any speakers.

Great helpful video. I decided on the A5+ Wireless. I'm connecting it to a Macbook Pro. Can you recommend a good value DAC? Is it necessary or should I just use the latest Bluetooth and DAC built into that speaker?

I am wondering, doesn't the HD6 have build-in DAC?

Please also do HD3 - for the smaller size genre that actually fit desktops

What is the black device w/ blue led connected to the station on the left? A DAC? Which model is it?
