This was an amazing episode, I really resonated with it and I totally got your references with surfing- I used to surf and skate and what drew me to them was the adventure, the unpredictability. There was joy but also a lot of frustration- with the weather, with progression etc. This is also true of art because these things themselves are fundamentally about being purely creative, just through different mediums. Our choices, our response to the circumstances of the day, all these things lead us in certain directions and not knowing the outcome is kinda cool. Thanks so much for sharing your wisdom.

Nicholas you are so correct, you need to be yourself. This is something I'm struggling with at the moment. I am experimenting for a new body of work and everything that I am creating is not working, I get no joy out of it and it is making me miserable and the work looks terrible. I've always been told that as an artist your work needs to have some deep meaning and a narrative, but all I want to do is play with colours and textures, that's what makes me happy. I'm in two minds and becoming more disheartened by the day.
