PSALM 90 / 91 (Gregorian chant)

In these troubled and difficult times, it is important to anchor oneself even more deeply in God's love and protection. All human efforts to live in security and all attempts to find solutions in the most difficult crises (however justified they may be) are not capable of granting man a definite and stable security.

In this video, we sing the Tractus (a chant sung in penitential seasons before the Gospel) which puts melody to Psalm 91 in Latin. We hope that the serene flow of this sacred chant will touch souls deeply, offering them God's comfort, whether in times of epidemic, war or whatever situation threatens us.

According to the ancient monastic tradition, the Catholic Church intones this psalm at Compline (prayer at the end of the day). However, it goes back much further, to the time of the Old Covenant. Even in our own day it can convey to us the comfort that only the Heavenly Father is able to give us: to dwell in the shelter of the Most High in the midst of all tribulations.

I wish I could tell you how hugely important this song has been to me. Both my parents died and my husband left me all in a time period of 6 months. I was battling crippling anxiety and fighting it and fighting God. Finally, I just told him, Lord if you want me to have anxiety, I'll have it. Just don't leave me. My grandmother is illiterate but extremely religious, to the point of memorizing entire sections of the bible by ear. Anyway, someone gifted her a large painting with psalm 91 on it and while I was staying with her one summer she made me read it to her every night so that she could learn it by heart. Now she knows it better than me. This is so beautiful!

My story begins like this, I see the Lord's hand from the time of my conception in my life, My Mom wanted to abort me, I was saved due to the efforts of a Doctor who is a Catholic Nun, All my childhood memories are flooded with how I searched for God, I was very much involved in all religious activities but I still did not have the real peace in his heart. I often wondered, “After all these religious ceremonies which I am performing every day, am I in right relationship with God? Is he drawing closer to me? My earliest encounter with Christ was big image of the Sacred Heart, I always felt called by Him, During classes and even at break I used to look at Him, the day His eyes met mine, He never left me, I still was a stauch Hindu, I wanted to overcome my karma by performing devotional rituals, but fear of death and reincarnation had overcome me, the words of Christ to Martha has set me free " I am the Resurrection", I followed Jesus right from I was 11, I was hated by my family and relatives for my faith in Him, but the Lord was gracious enough to take me into His fold when I was 16, I was baptized along with my Mom and maternal Grandmother into the  Church. Jesus my Savior, my King my all in all changed my life, there is no meaning to life without Him.
