Having now ridden the 2019 KTM 790 Adventure R for a few weeks I've had the chance to get to know the bike quite well and to identify any little foibles. In this video I ride the bike in various conditions and look at the costs of ownership as well as the various pros and cons of the machine.

Don’t understand why all manufacturers don’t put angled valves on the wheels. Seems like a small change for them but makes life just a bit easier for us 🤔
Great vid, thanks for the hard work

Great review. A mate of mine has one of these and we rode from Central Scotland to the Yorkshire Dales for some green laning and he had no complaints about the wind blast, and we had a fairly spirited ride on motorways, dual carriageways and A Roads. He's taller, at around 5ft11, so maybe that is a factor in the wind blast? Maybe there's a "bad" area and getting above or below gets you out of the turbulent point..
As a green laner, I can only go by the howling laughter coming from his helmet so i'll assume it was pretty good ...

Maybe invest in an MRA X-creen clip on screen lip? Then you can pop it on and off on bikes to see how much a larger screen or adding on of those makes. On the 1290 with an R screen, clipping on the X-creen makes a massive difference, it just lifts the wind blast over your head once you get the angle right.

A fair and honest review can always be found on the TMF channel. I am in the market for a mid adventure bike. But the Tiger 800 XCa has stolen my heart. Just gotta work out the $’s (🙏) Thanks again Andy 👍🏼

Excellent review, TMF! Thinking of replacing my Triumph STR with a mid sized adventure bike, and start spending time on trails. Hoping to see an 890R review from you! Merry Christmas to you and your family

Hate to contradict you, but I had no issues at 80mph on this bike with a Schuberth C3 Pro. I am 5.10. Yes, there is a lot of wind but not extreme buffeting. Try the F800GSA with the stock screen, that will turn your brain to jello!

The windscreen issue is what stopped the Ducati Multistrada from winning when I bought my Adventure bike. Great bike, but the buffeting was so annoying that the bike simply didnt stand a chance against other rivals. Yes you can buy after market products to help ease the issue, but when your designing an engineering masterpiece, how can you overlook that part of design. I think its simply poor judgement. Maybe they think it'll spend more time off road than on. Cheers groovers ;-)

Quick heads up - Annual VED increased to £91 about 3 months ago. Great video as usual, hope the arm is getting better, cheers!

Being a tall skinny person, I experience great difficulty finding trousers that are long enough, but this motorcycle looks like a perfect fit to me! The buffeting is something I will have to test for myself. On my previous bike, I lowered the screen so the wind would hit me more evenly on the upper body, with the standard screen my neck muscles got very sore from all the wind being directed to my head.

I owned a 790 adv s for a little while (800 miles) and now own a 890 adv r. The 890 is superior in low rpm torque and smoothness of the gear box. Overall it gives the impression of being more polished and refined. I am only 5ft 8inches so I usually use the 2 part seat from the s model.

All akrapovic exhausts that are options from the dealers sound no better than stock exhausts now, a little deeper sound but not worth the cost. I'm pretty sure it's because it has to meet the new euro standards just like stock exhausts do also why they don't have removable baffles anymore.

I'm saving for the 790R myself for my travel bike, I like to go off-road and wild camp, I think riding off road isn't for everyone and that's ok, We love your reviews and you're a splendid guy. Ex Mil like myself and my wife is always a plus :) (RAF). Thanks for the review.

Definitely replace the screen (that's at least fairly simple to do), but KTM's are amazing bikes, love the lighting at night, the TFT and the backlit switchgear.

You’ll need one of those, what with all the dreaded stone chippings the council have been spreading all around your area. Interesting review as always. Looks huge in the garage.
