Ben Gazzara at his best (I dig his performance here more than his role in Killing of a Chinese Bookie), gorgeous Silvia Monti, gritty and humorous screenplay by Duilio Coletti, and grooving soundtrack by Guido de Angelis.

Thanks: I like Ben Gazzara. Gorgeous Sicilian coastline & landscapes, with a nostalgic walk through a period fondly remembered.

During the final car chase Ben Gazara changed the car: He started in the garage with a 66 Impala and suddenly drove a 65 Impala on the highway. Rear lights changed from square to round :-)

at 25:02 the director shows Afyon sign and then next scene shows opium. Afyon means opium in turkish as well. Great detail.

Only a suicidal policeman would go on his own to disrupt the funeral of a Mafia ???

Handsome actors, film on location and high budget is the most realistic. The industry does not come with that anymore. Janet Busener

Much better than I remembered, and it ages as well as a fine Chianti.

The one thing that this film got wrong was the American side of the criminal world. NEVER, in the history of drugs, has anyone ever called heroin “snow.” And then come into a room full of elderly white female kingpins….
Not to mention the mafia would NEVER advertise to Joe their true intentions at the end.

That being said, it’s so interesting to see how Italian directors film American cities. Seeing NYC thru this lens made me think of Emilio Maraglia’s Frame Up (1968), staring Henry Silva and some other American actors, and filmed pretty much entirely in San Francisco. It made me realize that European directors shoot American cities differently than American directors...

Somehow acting been much better back than it really looked so real like in real life.
