We can’t make printers that work reliably without jamming or repair natural teeth, but we’re gonna achieve immortality? Ya I don’t think so.

Immortality for the elites, not us plebs.

I feel sad for Ray. He has legitimately been terrified of death for decades now.

Tim, the real story here is this: what would it do to people to know that there are some who are living forever, but it won't happen for you or your loved ones. The one thing that makes mortality bearable for many people is the fact that it's a great equalizer: old age and death come for everyone, more or less at the same rate.

Imagine being charged with a crime you didn't commit and being sentenced to 1, 000 years in prison.

Honestly immortality sounds horrible if we have to live to see how much society will decay.

Yeah I can tell how close they are to immortality by how scared they were of dying of covid. Hint not very close and never going to happen

Imagine having a pension clause that says until death and then you are immortal

Tim: "I am not a doctor so don't take my advice."

Yet, he took advice of an engineer on human's health. The 'Google' part just sealed the deal.

Ray Kurzweil likes to say that every few years. He'd probably say it forever if he could.

Looks like they found a more potent form of adrenochrome

They said we'd have flying cars too, and yet here we are, without flying cars. And no actual hover boards

As a Christian, I have Eternity waiting for me after this life is over with.

I think it's important to qualify "immortality" here. It doesn't mean become an eternal being who cannot die. It just means you wouldn't age. You would die sooner or later. I remember seeing something that said if you didn't age you have about a 70% chance of making it to 1, 000 years old. I'll take those odds.

Imagine being immortal and finally being able to pay your student debt off before the heat death of the universe!

Isaac Asimov thought about this many, many years ago in several of his books. There were those who embraced this life extending technology. They isolated themselves in safety and had robots to do their work. But the longer they lived the more fearful, careful and isolated they became. They lived but they stagnated. The only thing that mattered was safety and comfort. They wanted for nothing. Those who didn't embrace it strived, learned and grew and eventually outpaced them. Our shorter, harder lives makes us work harder. Struggle is growth. Without struggle we die, slowly.

I’ve been in chronic pain for about 35 years… wtf would I want to live longer for?
You can tell who the idiots that have never had to suffer are…

That would be terrifying, imagine dictators becoming immortal

If society continues like it is, I'd rather have the opposite of immortality
