Have you ever seen a train that runs on one rail? Why doesn't it fall off, and why don't we see it today?
This is the Brennan monorail, invented in 1903 by Louis Brennan. The idea was to make trains faster and railways cheaper to build. The first prototype had one gyroscope in the cockpit. The gyroscope ensures that the train remains stable and doesn't fall off. The problem was that when the train turned, the gyroscope maintained its stable position, causing the train to fall. A brilliant solution was to place two gyroscopes spinning in opposite directions to maintain the train's balance, making it more stable than a regular train. We don't see them anymore because investors weren't convinced of its stability.
