Just seeing bits and pieces of this interview over the last month or so has been really cool. Honestly, this is one of the best interviews on poker and poker theory/strategy I've ever seen. The full interview in on YouTube.

Daniel is about 73% ready to start a cult

Daniel is incredibly smart. He is essentially describing what is an issue in sports analysis. Stats can perfectly model the outcome, but not all stats are captured in counting stats. Like basketball. Good defense. People say blocks and steals. But I can play better defense giving you a little finger pinch in your ribs that the refs can’t see. That’s not captured. The competitiveness in my head is not captured. Same thing here. That 70% doesn’t mean shit if I’m Daniel Negreanu who can soul read you. That 70% is just a mere indicator that one should use as a guidance for ballpark odds. Those stats are only good if we were all robots who acted like we should, and have enough runs (or sample size, if you will), such that the numbers will converge upon that 70%. I can tell you that I can have a 10% winning rate hand based on averages and win 10/10 times against certain opponents.

I like this guy's interview style... unassuming, good questions, relatable. (Speaking to the full interview of course.) Also, the brilliant POV from Negreanu too.

There are actually people that can easily memorize the percentages and the statistical probabilities. It's just applying it in real time under real pressure with multiple individuals at the table. There is still psychology at play when you're playing face-to-face poker. And the time constraints are a factor as well!

My fave thing to watch is when a pro loses to an amateur and absolutely loses their shit because the rec player didn't play "correctly".(Lookin' at you, big G.)

I've won a lot of tournaments and cash games. I've also got demolished as well. Poker is fun, and can definitely be profitable if you treat it like a job, but it's a horrid grind. I remember going on a 200k run at Tilt and Stars, but forgot to pay my power bill. That's how you have to grind. It's stressful.

It’s good for recognizing patterns. After that? It becomes a three million piece jigsaw puzzle all black pieces.

No way Daniel would be where he is today with GTO poker and solvers had he not had that heads up match with Doug Polk a few years back. It changed his outlook on everything.

Might be a dumb question but why isn’t there an app that you can input your hand live as well as the cards that come out and the app tells you exactly what to do according to GTO, I’m saying this cause ik your allowed to use your phone or tablet at the live table. I’m not sure if this is allowed or not
