“Shame based fear of being ordinary” that is such a paradigm shift. Thank you for sharing.

And underneath the shame based fear of being ordinairy, there is the (shame based) fear of not being
special enough to be loved... ❤️‍🩹

RAISED BY ONE, DIVORCED ONE. THEY WERE BOTH BRUTAL.

It’s so important to understand narcissists, so that we can respond to them in an appropriate way. Understanding that it’s a shame based personality disorder helps and it shows the importance of handling them with firm empathy instead of sympathy. It is definitely not the right way to feel sorry for them. Thanks Brene Brown and Tim Ferris!

THANK YOU! Somebody needed to say this in the way that she said it! I’ve always tried to explain and interpret it in the right way but she’s just done it for me

I hear her and I relate to who she is describing… she sounds like she is describing me. Which is upsetting… 😢

Agree with some of that
Many of you present this grandiosity
To me is not abnormal
The emotional unavailability that really messes my head with real deep seeded narcissist
God bless Brene

I needed to see this today more than you could possibly know. The shift that I feel in how I’m going to respond, or not respond as the case may be is monumental. Thank you!

Unfortunately narcissistic people aren’t able to love themselves. And the reality is we all have narcisstic traits. It doesn’t mean we are a full on malignant narcissist but everyone has selfish tendencies where we make it all about us. Me. You. Brene Brown. Tim Ferris. The key is facing it within us.

Was in a relationship with narcissistic/psychopath person and it was beyond terrifying. That’s why they seek to control and hurt others. I did not learn this until much later after escaping

What does it say about me when the first thing I notice in the video is that her microphone windscreen is not sitting correctly? 🤣 Love her insights.

This is why I'm still with my husband after 20 years. I understand his childhood abandonment issues but just find a place to tuck it away.

They might have shame and self hatred but that doesnt justify them abusing others!

Pride is not the opposite of shame but it's source - Uncle Iroh

Yes narcissists are shame-based and that's exactly who Brene is always talking about -- people who have chronic feelings of shame associated with perfectionism and fragile sense of self. She says "vulnerability" is not weakness -- No of course, being honest or authentic is not weakness, but this inner, constant sense of vulnerability or fear of being judged is literally due to narcissism.

Whatever it is, it’s not okay. We can justify and have compassion buy that empathy ends up hurting us feeling sorry for people who gets high off of other peoples pain
