Philip DeFranco: How To Make People Trust You

Discover The 4 Emotions You Need To Make a Killer First Impression:

Philip DeFranco is probably the most trusted newsperson on YouTube. And in an era where mainstream news is suspect and allegations of fake news fly even from the President’s mouth, that might make Philip DeFranco the most trust newsperson in America.

In this video I want to talk about what you can learn from Philly D in terms of generating that kind of trust and respect, even when you’re talking about really controversial topics. And let me warn you, this isn’t always going to be easy

As Phil says, let’s just jump into it.

At 8:26 "If someone has a flawed or horrible argument, let them air it out so the world can know how stupid they are"
- Philip DeFranco

That was very well said.

Another thing I love about Phil is that when new facts come out that contradict a story he already covered, he makes updates. He admits when he's wrong.

Philip actually grew a lot. he used to be like the tmz of news many years ago but he's now the best and most objective analyst of breaking news. My number one source of news.

Now only if the rest of YouTube adopted honesty as the best policy.

Great video! I agree, Philip DeFranco is one of the people I trust the most for news. There are many times when I thought, "Gee, he's going to lose subscribers over this" or "Yeah, he could've gotten more money or attention if he'd done ___" but he didn't because he seemed like he wanted to honestly portray the news. Also goes with the bias thing--he makes it clear when he's talking about facts (or lack thereof) and his opinion. Anyway, yeah, great video once again! :>

Your voice is very attractive too, very easy on the ears. 😊

Being honest, transparent, and humble is difficult to do when there exist so many shortcuts to be taken, but with hard work and enough self discipline, you can exhibit those traits to the world, while being successful too. Phil Defranco proves it and our very own Charlie Houpert proves it too.

Typo at 4:51 : it should be "principles" and not "principals". Let this not distract from the fact that I like the ethos of this video. Keep up the good work.

I sometimes disagree, a LOT, with Phil. However, I RESPECT him more than any other person on the platform. As such, I will trust him... and RESPECT his statements, even when I do not share it. When I see a story reported on a "real" news show, I always hope Philly will respond. When he does, I won't always come to his side of the argument, but I feel more confident in my own ability to make an informed opinion. I agree that Phil DeFranco is the most trusted news source in the US today... and if he isn't, HE SHOULD BE. He is, without a doubt, the news source I TRUST the most. It is great to see others seeing that in him.

I feel like he's grown into the respected man he is now. He wasn't always like this. He may be a YouTube OG, but started out as a basic dudebro DoucheCanoe with boobalicious thumbnails and unironic clickbaity titles. And he doesn't pretend to be flawless or hide that background. He had been very transparent about evolving and changing opinions. And, honestly, he does not promise to KEEP those opinions or stick around forever. And that is a good thing too! I wish more people had the same integrity and intelligence.

tldr
-revealing your bias and seperating it from the facts, makes the facts more trustworthy
-sometimes you have to act against your own interests, to gain trust
-know your principles, make it clear that you live by them
-don't adjust your values to fit your purposes, sometimes you have to act according to them even when it is disadvantageous to you
