I think McCartney has handled this question very well over the years. His song, "Here Today" I think is his real answer. He is a public man and enjoys being with people and singing his hits and new songs. I think people have to remember he lost a friend; really a brother - Murdered in 1980. The man did not tour America again till 1990 - his last was 1976.
Harrison shut off his lovely home from visitors when Lennon was murdered. Till then, anyone could freely tour the gardens, might even run into George as he worked his land. Then up went the fences and wire after John was murdered. Harrison was almost killed in 2000 in a break-in even after all the security issues had been addressed. Harrison's son stated that the attack on his life worsened his ability to recover from his cancer. So, in my mind two Beatles were murdered... A band that always sang about love...

I've heard Paul McCartney get called everything under the sun saying how he's so arrogant & so full of himself. I've never really got that & this interview shows (along with many others) show that he's a genuine guy.

man, i bet Paul and Ringo are tired of getting asked the exact same question every time someone interviews them.

His voice trembles when he got to Linda... what he has gone through is just cruel... I'm so glad he's happy and healthy!

I lost my best friend when we were 27. Hearing Paul talk about John breaks my heart. It’s hard to describe that pain to others.

The guy was a "jerk" for asking Paul that question AGAIN.

Always the same questions to Paul, hes been answering for the last 35 years. If only I could exchange some words with him. I would ask much more interesting questions

Aw, Paul and Martin sitting next to each other makes my heart so happy.

The pain is still so sharp and you can see it in his eyes. I would never want him to relive that moment in his mind for the sake of an interview

Its hard to think about it. John Lennon was Pauls close friend more than anything. Thats stronger than being a bandmate. They had an incredible success story together and sharing that amazing journey as friends must have been magic. I wasnt even born when John died. And still I cry. Imagine how hard it must be for Paul. I feel for him. Good man.

Paul hates talking about John's death

so sad to see him still getting upset :( also the production team probably asked Paul before hand if Jonathan could ask that question. You can't really ask something like that out of the blue, which would air on TV. That's my opinion anyway.

I'll NEVER forget that day. I still cry. Paul's voice sort of changed for a moment.

I remember growing up listening to Beatle songs as a kid and not even knowing John had died 12 years before I was born. This was back when George was still with us, and then when he died, I was genuinely so upset and somehow during that time I come to learn about John's death too. It was like half of The Beatles had died at the same time which is a weird thing for a 9 year old to digest... and to then learn how John had died, I was utterly crushed.

Lennon-McCartney, arguably the best songwriting team in the history of music. I can't fathom how monumentally crushing that was for Paul to go through. I'm sure Ringo and George were no less gutted but Paul and John were birds of a feather.
