A gallery wrapped canvas stretches around the sides of the frame and is secured to the back. This is a great choice for artwork that is meant to be unframed. Gallery wrapped canvas comes in a variety of profile widths.

A back stapled canvas is similar to a gallery wrapped canvas in that it is stretched around the sides and stapled to the back of the framework. However, the stretcher bars are thinner on a back stapled canvas and the staples are visible. This canvas is meant to be framed and is much less expensive than a gallery wrapped canvas.

A panel canvas is even less expensive than either gallery wrapped or back stapled canvasses. These are great for smaller art projects, crafting projects and home decor.

I have so many canvases in all shapes and sizes...some colored too! I usually stock up when they are on sale

I feel that even Michael's level 3 canvases are poor quality. They aren't even worth the money when they are 70% off. The canvases arrive with slits in the sides and the glue that is used to keep the canvases together comes apart. Pieces of canvas fray are visible at the side borders. I recommend fine artists to stay away from Michael's poor quality products and buy from your local fine arts store.
