It is worth to strive and attain to sotopana at minimum level in this life.
If one in this life attain sotopana, you will be free from hell forever. So now you know it is so important in this life to practice anapanasati that grow vipasanna and attain to an ARIYA.
Do you know if you do not strives to attain ceesation of 5 khandas and then follow by the ceesation of the mind, you can still be born in your next birth in hell or becoming peta because your many lifetime strong bad karmas may catch up with you in this life upon your last breath.
Even if you do good, even if you meditate and as long as you did not experience ceesation of concious or the shutting down of mind, you can still be born in hell.
Even monk who do not quickly practice mind purification and gain enlightment they can also be born in hell. That is why to become monk the opportunity is better to experience the 4 noble truth by constantly be mindful, aware and detach from all worldly activities and experience the last 3th and 4th truth the ceesation of 5 khandas and concious which is the final mind purification for one to be free from hell.
Hope you know now from the explaination the importance to strive deligently in this life.
Do not be ego, do not stick to teachers, do not stick to yourself or to others.
Practice the instruction laid down by the BUDDHA and listen to ariya teacher and practice anapanasati that grow vipasanna to liberate yourself from samsara. Anapanasati grow Vipasanna (anapanasati and vipadanna) is everything you need to reach nibanna. No need any other types of meditation instruction garantee.
Your life is too short to take chance into other meditation instructions. Because every type of meditation takes lots of time to progress and you do not have very long life in this world to take chances.
That is why before BUDDHA parinibanna, the final instruction is strive on deligent and the way of meditation is SATIPATTAHANA panna meditation.
(consist of anapanasati breathing contemplation and vipasanna is insight knowledge arise from focus mindfullness on breath there arise the 4 foundation of mindfullness which are very subtle.
So you can see by anapanassti breath continuously contemplate and carefully development, it will grow knowledge or panna and further on ptactice these 4 foundation of subtle object become visible to the mind.
When these subtle 4 object become visible one also begin to see aniccha, dukkha, anatha and the 4 noble truth are fully understood by this way of practice (anapanasati breath contemplation with vipasanna insight knowledge arise ) when one constantly focus anapanasati breathing it will become concentrated and gradually become calm and in this way samadhi or jhanna also can arise and that is why you can see the 4 foundation of object with the samadhi mind. If without gaining focus mindfulness on your breath, samadhi and wisdom(panna) cannot arise and you cannot see the 4 foundation object with your mind.
So do not worry that you must practice samatha to get jhanna. Remember your life is too short to practice other meditation as all meditation takes time to progress and different meditation take you to different destination.
Do it is clearly explain above that all you really need as explain by the BUDDHA is you will just need to practice anapanasati breathing technique and focus on your breath which will become develop and vipasanna will grow as your mind become concentrated samadhi and panna will arise if you just continue focus on your breath. This is the way to ENLIGHTMENT.

Here is a simile so you can understand better:
Just like you put a seed into futile soil and you keep constanstantly watering it and soon the seed will sprouts out from the ground. It will grow big and strong, And bear fruits.
The seed is wisdom or panna, watering(anapanasati on breath) the furtile soil(dhamma or mindfulness on mind and body) the seed sprout out from the soil(the 4 foundation of mindfulness sees the subtle object with the mind) It will grow big(concentrated) and strong(samadhi)and it will bear fruits(Enlightment)
May all practice deligently and try your best to attain in this life.
