I actually use both methods. Plus the count up method.
Never heard them being called „American“ or „Singapore“.

It would depend on the numbers. .80 is a nice round number so the latter works better but sometimes the first method would be faster. I usually do the latter when doing calculations in my head but the first method when the problem is written.

The Swiss: Start at the left write the sum from left to right. It will be 6 4, add 1 to the bottom 3, difference will now be 3 instead of 4, then 5 will be left.. You will get 53.46.

Doubt it works as well with longer numbers requiring multiple carries.
