I seem to be listening to this concerto a lot recently by coincidence. Helmchen does such a nice job with it and Manze and company are with him all the way. I first heard of Manze as the accompanist to James Ehnes in his recording of the Beethoven Violin Concerto. I knew nothing about him. But he exudes so much joy in his conducting that he turns your head and gets your attention. I have conducted, myself, for 60 years (though I am an engineer by trade and training) and only Bernstein got as much of a kick out the music as Manze seems to. Anyhow, a wonderful and very clean and well-articulated performance.
