NYC sued over Open Streets program

The federal lawsuit says the Open Streets program violates the Americans With Disabilities Act. FOX 5 NY's Linda Schmidt has the story.

I concur. My mom is 80 year on a walker and has a hard time trying to get in her Access A Ride to get to her doctors appt because of these open streets program. The van has to park farther away to pick her up outside her apt because of this and she has already has a hard time waking a few feet to get to it

Same is true in other neighborhoods. In Queens(34th Ave, going from 94th street to the 60's), over a mile was closed off during the pandemic and has now been made permanent. There was no vote or studies done about the effects of re-routing traffic and or the effects. People with disabilities and need for access a ride type of transportation have complained to no avail. There have also been news reports of the fire department saying that the closing down of streets on the avenue has caused problems for them to get to fires/emergencies. Video was also shared with the news showing fire trucks having problems getting to fires due to the street closures.

I’m a school bus driver for over 40 years in this city the problem is ludicrous go after the illegal scooters and e-bike s that really has made even walking dangerous not to mention driving

NYC became pathetic. It’s crazy how the city congests everything with all those bike lanes. On some of the streets in lower Manhattan and downtown, you can’t pull over the car and drop off people either; sometimes, you can't pass while other vehicles are double parked. New York City doesn’t need bike lanes; instead, of spending tons of money on bike lanes. They should put more trash can 🗑️ around the city. Precisely in Manhattan, it doesn’t Mike sense to put bike lanes everywhere. Unbelievable how they mess up the city.

I've been saying this from the beginning. Not everyone is able to walk freely. Makes it hard for seniors, people with disabilities or even families with young children.

I can assure you that pedestrian infrastructure is much safer than car-dependent infrastructure. These people are well-intentioned, but misunderstood, and I think once they live with streets like this they'll realize it's way better than giant Chevy Suburbans zinging past them
