Why does he give most movies 3.5 stars all the time?

Never in my life have I so disagreed with the critical consensus about a film. The writing in this film is genuinely atrocious, filled with paper thin characters who exist only to awkwardly shove Brad Pitt onto the next plot point or to blatantly explain their character motivations and flaws in monotone, direct to camera. Not to mention some truly bizarre scenes (including what can only be described as a Looney Tunes massacre) and a completely underwhelming third act that’s let down by underdeveloped characters, and Ad Astra is easily the most disappointed I’ve been in a theatre this year.
