With so much initial confusion on the message that Kendrick Lamar was sending with his Super Bowl halftime show, here is a quick and brief breakdown of the storyline that went down, and was missed by the masses…

I’m sure there are more that I didn’t include, but I could only fit so much in under 60 seconds.

What did you guys think of Kendrick’s performance?

The amount of messages this guy can give during a 13 min performance is CRAZY

Samuel Jackson as Uncle Sam was just perfect

The beauty in this performance was that he came to entertain no one, he came to do and say what he wanted to do and say.

So many of the song choices, bars, and imagery are double or more entendres, reflecting on his beef with Drake, reflecting on his experience as a Black American, how most people would rather be asleep and complacent and fawn for nostalgia than actually be awake and alive and in the moment, and class war between rich and poor.

I got some references off the bat, including the Gil Scott Heron track "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" but every time i watch videos of breakdowns of this performance, I see more references i missed or flew over my head, and THAT'S the genius of Kendrick, his performance, and his music.

For those who don’t know “The Great American Game” is “Divide and Conquer”. It’s a game played by the elite vs. everyone else. Even though this performance made that blatantly clear, I’m sure that message still went over a lot of people’s heads

Fun fact: Kendrick actually ended his performance on the fifty yard line, he actually dropped and gave him 50.

Also, in Wesley's Theory Kendrick says "Whatchu want? a house or a car? 40 acres and a mule? A piano? a guitar? Anything, see my name is Uncle Sam im your dawg".

The message is there, the art was there, the skit was there, the choreography and story telling was there, and all done live, from the camera angles to the fluidity, people not appreciating this is crazy

He’s a natural born storyteller - there was no way this was just about to be a simple TV performance 🔥

People don't understand, hate it or love. He made a statement and he got the world talking, he did his job 👏🏽👏🏽💪🏽💪🏽!

Not just a diss to Drake but a diss to American society. He referenced the revolution being televised...look up the revolution will not be televised. He also references 40 acres and a mule.

Just watch the performance again with a better perspective on the storyline and now all the comments about it being weak performance kinda prove the message of the performance. People want vibes, hype and festive feeling (which is not entirely wrong) and we know Kendrick can do it easily but he choose his own direction which he probably knows that not everyone gonna like it.
