Cutting Logs Into Lumber with an Alaskan Sawmill

Показать описание
In this video, I mill my own lumber at my cabin in the woods! Using a brand new Stihl MS 661 chainsaw with a 32" bar, ripping chain and a Granberg 24" Alaskan Sawmill, I create true 2" x 4" boards, and a few 1" x 8' live edge slabs.

Thanks for watching!

Makes an old man wish for younger days. Nice mill 👍

To prevent the log from rolling over, make the first cut like you are doing now, then roll the log with the flat side down, now it is stable and won't roll and no need to pinch the log any more.
I really like these videos you make, showing how you can do and achieve things while not needing the latest and greatest gadgets and tools. I think the new saw was a good investment though, as was the Alaskan mill.

Good lord, you found the hardest way to make a 2x4!

You might want to watch “Surviving Ringworm”. On that channel Ryan uses chainsaw mills to make all his structures in the “U.P.” Of Michigan. He’s created a number of ways to manage hauling and manipulating logs such that he doesn’t over stress his back.

Funny how each of us sees different things with these videos. I was thinking about how the saw dust is so useful to me. When I clean comb to make bee's wax, there is a lot of icky stuff that gets scraped off after each cleaning of the wax until it's candle ready. I mix this discard with saw dust and make a wonderful fire starter with it.

In the meantime, your lumber looks great!

The learning process takes time. Keep in mind, if you know what you’re doing you aren’t learning. Won’t take you long.

Great Video!! For ripping a straight edge for 2x4 etc.. consider investing in the Makita cordless track or circular saw. The beauty of this is the track guide rail can be right on your mark and rip a straight line. The rail guides come in different lengths and can be connected so you can rip straight lines for long boards as long as you have enough guide rails. There are a ton of videos on these. Festool, Makita, powertec rails are all compatible

You've got such a great channel going. What a resource for those who also want to do these things and don't have the experience. Thank you for being so open about the learning process. That's worth its weight in gold. Bless you, Diego. 🙏🕊👊

Very nice new saw and mill setup. Grandberg makes good stuff. With a chain that long, I would be looking into their chain sharping setups. You have enough saws and chains to warrent a tool to speed that process up. Great video as always.
