I give Lee a lot of credit for doing this where all of youtube can see it. Sitting next to Pete would make most of us look inept.

In short - the technicality of the lesson assumes basic knowledge that Lee doesn't have yet.. which is why he isn't getting it. Very brave of Lee to put himself in this position on camera. Such a great humble guy in so many ways.

This is like when Michael Scott asks for Oscar to “explain this to me like I’m eight....”, then after the explanation says “why don’t you explain it to me like I’m five...”

The cool thing with Lee here, is that he’s right where most of us guitarists who watch these videos, are: Reasonably experienced, we can play, the equipment we have is not restricting our ability, etc. He’s asking the questions I’d want to ask :)

The world needs more guys like Lee and Pete.

when it's written "Pete" and "Captain" in the title, you know it's gonna be a good video

Oh Captain, my Captain! Kudos to the Lee for not being afraid to discuss his playing limitations and to show us how to break out of ruts. Truly a man of the people, which is one of the reasons his videos are so appealing.

Pete is a monster player, but he's confusing the hell out of the poor Captain. The whole thing could be summarized into: "you're in Dm, right? You know your minor pentatonic, so play that, and here's some notes you can add for colour. If we add X we get dorian, which sounds funky; if we add Y we get aeolian, which sounds folksy, etc." It's a gross oversimplification, but it's a start.

Lee you are always so self deprecating about your guitar playing, I feel like im similar to you in that respect a common line from me "if im the best guitar player in the room...its not a very good room" but at the end of the day i think you are a really good player, you have a great feel and you hold rhythm solid as a rock in many different styles...it has been nice to see you improve so drastically over the last year or so, rock on man....and dont put yourself down so much!

So nice to have such a genuinely nice person who doesn’t belittle or slam for getting stuff wrong. Pete you are an amazing person.

Pete's knowledge is just amazing. Comes so naturally. Of course there's thousands of hours of practice and playing behind it, but still. Bloody amazing

I haven’t laughed as much as we did at the end in years!

Cap' I applaud your bravery and self depreciation in this, and know you're not alone in your endeavor. Totally working on ways out of the box myself and totally enjoying this series of lessons, thanks so much!

I've been playing guitar for almost 20 years. Self taught, and like lee, I'm stuck inside the box. I love these videos. Lee is, in my mind an awesome guitar player. Pete is very musically inclined. I love these videos. Although I may only be taking 10% of it in like Lee, they're still killer. Thank you guys for awesome content. I watch you guys every day from the U.S. in the state of Kentucky. Ive maid it a goal of mine to visit your music store. Thanks for being awesome guys! Much love!

Gents, absolutely the BEST lessons I’ve ever had. Lee asks exactly the same questions I would. Which is great psychoanalysis because Lee and I both over think playing and also lack a plan of note to land on. It is at once being planned and also not overthinking to allow your fingers to go outside of your normal muscle memory. Pete you are an epic teacher in this series. Please keep doing this! Thank you both and I bought the tracks.
