Disease affects us all during our lives. This lecture will show how archaeological skeletons can inform our understanding of people's health in the past. It will focus on how this is done and why it is important, including recent research on infectious disease. It will show how the deep time perspective that we gain by analysing skeletons from different burial contexts provides us with a better understanding of who we are today.
Part of the Mondays at One Archaeology Series.

I changed my major half-way through college from Archaeology to Art. I'm a cartoonist/illustrator now and I do love my work, but there are days I miss excuses to go to far-away places and dig the people who lived there.

I wish the people in charge of videoing would spend more time on what is being presented and less on the presenter. The presenter's face doesn't change!!

I was really surprised at the historical height comparisons with current averages. It seemed to contradict my (albeit limited) understanding of stature through the ages. Good lecture, thank you for posting

I somehow missed what disease caused the jaw to have crystalized looking bone on the chin. Does anyone know what could have caused that? i can't even begin to imagine and I've tried googling it, but apparantly I haven't described it well enough to pull up any answers.
