This is the first video in a new series I'm starting called stats and methods shorts. These videos will be quick primers on different aspects of statistics and methods that I think are important to know. In this one, we'll be discussing the difference between statistical significance and effect size, as well as the most common measures of effect size in psychology.

Great video. My medical journal just announced that they are going to emphasize effect size over the traditional p-value reporting because study outcomes in veterinary medicine may hide the positive effect of interventions because of small sample size. Wondering if you can do a video on what the advantages of using effect size in smaller populations could be.

p-value is not the same as statistical significance. Statistical significance as per convention for p-value is usually 0, 05 which is the chance of sampling error. Hence comparing the two should demonstrate whether there is actually a difference between two groups, thus rejecting the null hypothesis

„The likelihood of what you see in your data is due to chance“ is a common misinterpretation of significance testing. Significance testing is about the likelihood of you getting your Data while H0 is true. Significance tests are very unintuitive to interpret.

Hi, regarding the eta square for finding sample size more than 2 groups, I can't seem to find any paper, book, website talking about that.
Could you enlighten me on that?
