To answer a question that I know will be asked, I get most of my books from authors directly or from off shoot ebooks websites that don't use DRM. Other times I strip the DRM off or get the books through...other...means.

No shame in enjoying romance! I respect you being open about your eclectic taste without trying to be macho or anything.

Calibre is one of those super awesome, useful programs that have been around forever and we've all been taking for granted. I don't know what I'd do if it ever to ever disappear.

I've used Calibre for years. I have over 9400 books spread across 7 Calibre libraries, by category: SciFi, Literature, History, Tech-Ref, etc... Calibre makes it easy to convert to alternate formats. I use ePub on my Android phone (with Moon Reader Pro) and I sync my ToRead library (currently 2009 books) to phone, tablet, and ultraportable Linux platforms. One great extension is that you can share any Calibre library on the local web using Calibre-web. It takes the exact Calibre library and make it available locally. My kids and Grandkids love this when they come to visit. Yes, I also have a Kids Library just for them. Another unsung part of Calibre is that there is a portable version of it too. That part only runs on Windows but I keep a T7 thumbdrive with me when I travel that has all my Calibre libraries available. I can connect any device I need to copy books to with me always. I can't image how I would live without Calibre.

Yes, please do readers. I always struggle having something that works on Android and Linux. Currently using Okular on Linux and Android FullReader

>the UI is atrocious
>realizes that he can theme it because it's actually a very well designed UI
The very definition of don't knock it till you try it.

>discovery issues
>layout
What are they supposed to do about that though?
There's only so much they can do to make something obvious until it becomes obnoxious.

One of the features i don't use in calibre is "Send to Kindle by E-Mail"
Because by sending through email, I am basically sending my eBooks to Amazon because kindle's email address is Amazon’s.
And that bothers me. So I do eBook transfer only via USB cable, which is faster and I don't need to turn off Airplane Mode on Kindle for that. You can use your kindle without ever turning on Wifi. Even software updates can be installed by USB cable in kindle.

This was far more interesting than I had originally anticipated. I learned you're a Brandon Sanderson fan, and also that there are more books since "Alloy of Law." I probably should read them.

LOVE the THE INTRO!

I like the more "niche" content. Even if it's not something I might personally use, it's great to know that the software exists should I want to try it out.

Foliate is a great option for Linux too. It is simple and effective.

I thought it was pronounced cal-i-ber.

Edit1 - Why your calibre shows your Series list in Groups? In my Calibre, I have a list of all the individual series rather than in groups. I guess you must have made some changes in preferences. Or your theme might have. Please check because for me, I get a full list of Series I have in my library in Alphabetical order.

Please Check the small arrow button on the left of "Series" in left side browser. This button will show you a list of all the series in your Library. And when you click on one, it will show you all the books from that series.

Similarly with Authors, just notice that tiny arrow button before words "Authors" "Series"
That button expands the whole list.
YES YOU CAN DO THAT
You said you can't do this, but I think you haven't discovered this button yet. I have been using it for a long time.

Dude! How do you read so many books? Can you share your pattern or habit for reading, curious. Also, do you add your paper books to Calibre, to track your library?
Thanks 🐧

Didn't know about this interface but for years it was a struggle with Calibre bright mode until.. actually about a year I think.. version 7 dot something introduced dark mode. Man it was hard, but still used it since .. wow, I'm too old...

Calibre is one of my absolute favorite application. I have been using it for more than 10 years but I understood ts true potential only 4 years back. It can create Virtual libraries within one library (I have divided my books into different libraries like Fiction, Non-fiction and so on) . Your issue with finding series can be solved by creating Virtual libraries based on the series which you wish to see within your library. BTW Calibre is developed by the same developer who develops Kitty terminal.

I use Calibre since years, but I didn't know one could make it look so much better with just a few clicks :)
I never looked at the options much, obviously a mistake. Thank you!

Calibre + Kobo Libra Colour is so good. I got one a few weeks ago and love it. First thing I did was put it in sideloadmode so all the Kobo account stuff is disabled as I have no need nor want for that stuff. It means I have to manually manage my books but I prefer doing it that way anyway and it isn't like syncing epubs (or more correctly kepubs) takes a long time as they're so small.

I can see (potentially) two sequels to this video. Both are a bit outside the norm for this channel, but it's something that you're interested in, so I think they would be good videos.

1. Reading speed, comprehension, and retention. How in the world do you read that much?

2. What are these sites where you can buy non-DRM books?
