Currently there are 3 sovereign monarchies in Africa: Morocco, Lesotho and Eswatini. But a good number of countries have presidents for life basicly, with near absolute powers. Some of these presidents are even being succeeded by their own sons.
- Like Chad, where the president was recently killed in a battle against rebels, and his son was quickly announced as his successor.

Cool to see how the governments of Africa change. While the Central African Republic was under an authoritarian dictatorship in the 1970s, from 1976 to 1979, their dictator Bokassa declared himself Bokassa I and proclaimed the Central African Empire. Technically, Central Africa from 1976 to 1979 would be an "absolute monarchy with an authoritarian dictatorship".

Oddly enough, Botswana has ranked above France on the Democracy index, but it is clearly a one party state.

The dark red stripes on south africa shown there was mostly because of Apartheid right?(Similar to how you put the dark red stripes on South Korea at the east asian forms of goverment video that is due to military dictatorship in south korea)

Not bad, but I'd colour South Africa as a dominant party / one party state.

Botswana is a democracy, they just elected the same guy over and over again because he was doing a great job and the people still elect the candinates from the same party because of there first president.

little history. Algeria actually got rid of its one party state domination in 1990 when the FLN(the one party) decide to allow election with many parties. Unfortunately one of those parties was a Salafist party that took inspiration from Iran. They actually almost own with a majority of the seats and votes. Military intervened leading to a civil conflict called The Black Decade with similar intensity to that of say The Troubles in Ireland. The war ended in 2000 and the government allowed multiparty elections again but many have grown loyal to the FLN do to the Revolution and the Civil war.
