5 Tips for Creating a Mini Writing Retreat

Sometimes you just need to get away and focus on YOU and your writing.

Maybe you have a busy home life or work is demanding. Maybe you have a ton of distractions.

A few days away can help you reset and refocus. But it’s helpful to plan your writing retreat. This involves knowing what to expect and having some strategies for managing your time while on retreat.

In this video, I share a few quick tips for making your retreat as fun and helpful as possible.

These include:

1. Know that things may not go according to plan.

2. As soon as you can, establish a routine - and figure out what works best for you.

3. Get into Morning Pages - free writing three pages - as soon as you wake up. This is not “useful” writing. You won’t look at these pages again.

4. Read a book for a couple of hours every day. Read analogue. The two hours don’t have to be consecutive.

5. Plan up to an hour of movement into your day

Having 3-4 hours a day for 3-4 days in a row can help you write good pages and make surprising discoveries in your work.
