STARLESS (LIVE IN CENTRAL PARK)
[Bonus Track]
(Cross, Fripp, Wetton, Bruford, Palmer-James)

Sundown dazzling day
Gold through my eyes
But my eyes turned within only see
Starless and bible black

Old friend charity
Cruel twisted smile
And the smile signals emptiness for me
Starless and bible black

Ice blue silver sky
Fades into grey
To a grey hope that all yearns to be
Starless and bible black

I remember one time playing this on my headphones and actually almost exploding as I walked down the street. Every fibre of my soul being essence was shredded and flayed by the glorious malevolent slaughterhouse pulverization of this cosmic blast. It still rips and rips and keeps slaying and flaying.

I've spent years modelling my bass guitar tone on this. Absolutely magnificent.

John Wetton may have had the greatest bass tone ever in rock music .

The mellotron at the coda can NEVER be made loud enough for my satisfaction

My one wish is to someday hear this song preformed live in concert maybe whenever covid dies down I may be able to but until then this is as close as I’ll get to it

Even in live form this song demonstrates its power and beauty.

This is why they record live albums in japan. The crowd actually shuts up during the performance

Robert Fripp has said that David Cross (on the violin) was the person in the band that he could relate to the most.

This version of Crimson was the best live prog group of all time! Nobody could improvise like them! Fripp & Bruford and Wetton are all geniuses!

What an outstanding rendition of this song! I love Jacko's version but this has such raw, primal power to it.

When the electric piano comes in it gets so heavy

Easily my favourite ever track in 13-time.

The middle part I like more than the LP! This is a bit less "stiff" all around, maybe. Not keen on the final section, though... King Crimson was an amazing band to dig into because every live version had merits. I saved up endlessly for the Great Deceiver box when I was a teen (but never made it, haha). This track was the rare beast. Nice to have it all so easily now on Youtube. I wonder what changed in Fripp's mind?
