Captain Turner didn't go down with his ship. He was washed off the bridge wing and was pulled out of the water. The severe list made it impossible to launch any of the port side lifeboats and the panic that resulted made the launch of the starboard side lifeboats uneven and many of the boats were up-ended or capsized. There was only one torpedo, there were secondary explosions that may have come from coal dust and perhaps gun cotton that was part of the munitions stored in the forward holds.

I got to touch the propeller from the Lusitania when it was at Jack Littlefelds collection in CA. Out of all the armor vehicles there, this piece was the most surreal to me.

Lusitania actually hit bottom before she fully submerged. She was more than than 400 feet long, the place where she sank was approximately that depth.

Supposedly the wireless station in Tuckerton NJ sent a message "Get Lucy" The station was controlled by germans. (They had the wireless tech). The salt marshes made wireless transmission signals efficient. All that remains are some massive concrete blocks that anchored the stay wires for the mast

The picture of the ship's sinking is somewhat different from the real one, since the depth of the sea in this place was half the length of the liner's hull. The Lusitania sank with a list to starboard and a slight trim on the bow.

Since the Lusitania was 787 feet in length and it sank in 305 feet of water, wouldn't that have meant over 400 feet of the ship was sticking up as the bow hit the bottom before it sank altogether?? So sad and tragic
