You'll often hear that Linux is fast and lightweight on older hardware. One way to measure that is with a startup time race!

On 13-inch 2015 Macbook Pro models with solid state drives and nearly identical specifications, see the latest MacOS Big Sur go head-to-head with the latest elementary OS 6.1.

In this video, the Mac has an encrypted drive while elementary OS does not. Check out the video of a second race on two machines that both have unencrypted drives:

It's been pointed out that one difference here is that the Mac has the drive encrypted since File Vault is enabled, while this elementaryOS install does not have the drive encrypted. Check out the video of the second race where both machines have unencrypted drives:

Though this is not super rigorous benchmarking, hopefully it is a fun way to show that Linux can run great on older hardware (these MacBook Pros are both 2015 models with SSD's).
