This is where Augustine of Hippo gets things wrong. His definition of original sin is bad. To the point he says unbaptized babies go to hell. Of inheriting Adam's guilt

This was something I have confronted our own pastor about in years past, and even this past year when we suffered a miscarriage.
In the past, he stated that because of our inherited sin nature, aborted babies and miscarriage babies of unbelievers would go to hell since they would not have the saving faith in Christ to save them. When my wife sought council about our own baby, I gave her these verses and reasoned that a Just God, a merciful God, would not hold an unborn child accountable for anything as they have not yet even taken a first breath, and have not had any ability or chance to do anything morally good or bad and to offend God. Also, since we know God knits us together in our mothers' womb, why would He make a child only to cast it into Hell immediately before even finishing?
When talking to our pastor, he made the claim that since it was us who had a miscarriage, our baby was probably in heaven because of the extra grace afforded to our believing family.
I challenged him on this inconsistency and reasoning but he hasn't changed his mind.
I am on track to become the next elder in the church to join the current elders, and in order to do so, I have to sign off on very calvinist deterministic statements of faith. I am currently writing a corrective rebuke and critique of the statements arguing from Scripture primarily, and reason second, linking it all together as to why I cannot sign those statements and hold them as my own, from a Biblical perspective. They know I am very Berean and search Scripture to prove my position, so hopefully, the others will see and accept my eldership even if I do not sign on those particular points.
Pray for me brothers and sisters, that I may be patient, loving and true in my writing and speech, and give God the glory due His name and His Word.

Eze 18:20 - "The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself."

Original sin is the truth, but not as Calvinists understand it.

Affected by the original sin, not guilty of it. Human nature is affected, and we are humans.

Revelation 20:13
Then the sea gave up its dead, and Death and Hades gave up their dead; all were judged according to their works.

We are judged according to our works, not Adam’s works.

How did John the Baptist leap for joy inside his mother upon meeting Mary & Jesus if John was totally depraved?

God overlooks ignorance. Acts 17:30. God will judge based on our knowledge. James 4:17.

How I have seen it, is if you are old enough to decern decision Between committing right and wrong, you are accountable to judgment. Likewise, if you are old enough understand the judgment, you are old enough to truly repent.

No. Accusing someone of being guilty of Adam’s sin is a violation of “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighborino”

Excellent! Makes so much sense, . We won't be held accountable for an ancestor's sin, only our own. So very plain one has to deny Scripture to maintain Calvinism.

The question about what happens to a baby who dies might be the most clarifying question on the character of God. Common sense, psychological research, the Bible, and the witness in one's spirit make it clear that a God who would send a baby to hell is a God one should rightly deny, if repent and believe in the good news about Jesus and the kingdom of God is the gospel.

No, we are not guilty of Adam and Eve's sin. Yes, Adam and Eve passed on to all of their descendants, to all human beings, the knowledge of good and evil... without the ability to always and accurately discern good from evil. Which is why the path to hell is paved with... good intentions.

No, guilt cannot be transferred to succeeding souls because souls do not beget souls as flesh begets flesh. The soul is a direct creation of GOD through Christ that is why Ezekiel 18 refutes the heresy

For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.

It is an interesting occurrence that I believe God has put before me today. I've been considering the subject the last few days and I have come to the conclusion that we are stained by the sun of Adam and not guilty of sad sin. The stain has left us with a sinful nature. We are born innocent but stained. Innocent of the sin, without the guilt. But stained by it, much like a drug addict who gives birth and the child is left with the effects of its mother's drug addiction. We are no different.
