I have been casually collecting Hot Wheels for the last 28 years. This morning I went into a Target to get a late Christmas gift. I always check the pegs when I go to Target but I never find anything. This morning when I went to check the pegs there were employees stocking to toy section, and to my surprise there were HW cases an employee was putting into a cardboard HW bin. He had four unopened cases and he opened them and let me go through them. This might sound like no big deal to most of you, but I haven’t gone through an unopened HW case in 20 years. I was so thrilled. I bought several cars for my 2 year old grandson, but I found 4 Merc Treasure Hunts. I bought two and left two behind for the next person. There were 5 MU cases in total, and four of the five cases had the Merc TH. I had forgotten what a thrill it was to find a TH fresh out of the box.

I’ve been collecting and the Hirohata Merc is my favorite so far! It has a vintage appeal that stands out and makes me think of rich people who drives it.

I was at Target 15mins before they closed & it looked like they had just packed both the pegs & the bin.I quickly went through the pegs & to my surprise I found the gorgeous chrome purple Hirohata Merc!! I was ecstatic as it was my 1st Super Treasure Hunt. I grabbed a few other cars & darted to the front as they were clearing out the last of the customers including myself.I got to the checkouts & carefully set my newly found Treasure & the other 2 cars I chose.The checker quickly ran the first 2 cars over the scanner but when she got to Hirohata Merc STH she couldn't get it to scan so I watched in horror as she flipped the car around raking it over & over the scanner till it finally scanned she then tossed it in the bag with the others.With 2 minutes to spare before closing I darted to my car.Excited I checked over the 1st 2 cars....then I got to the Hirohata Merc, the car was beautiful with the Purple & white playing off each other & the TH covering the back right wheel.I couldn't wait to get it home & in a protector Unfortunately when the checker was trying to get it to scan she must've caught the top tap on the scan cause it was bent & creased where it was in mint condition.Thought i totally understand she just doing her job & I'm sure just wanted to get out of there as they were closing & I was one of the last 2 customers I was still crushed.I now go out of my way to use the self checkouts.On a positive note I just found the 96' Nissan 180sx Type X STH with No issues! Sorry 4 the insanely long story!

Just found my first TH in the wild: the Hirohata Mercury! Looks beautiful with the Spectraflame Purple paint and the chrome wheels. The Walmart in Heath, Ohio might still have one; I found two and only bought one.
